 A must have lens for your Sony G-lens compatible Camcorder.Apr 28, 2012

*Review Disclaimer*. This wide end conversion lens is meant to be used with HD Sony camcorders with a wide angle "G" lens logo on it, and fit either 30mm threaded camcorders, or 37mm threaded camcorders.
I bought this lens to go with my Sony HDR-CX560V camcorder, and it delivers an extremely satisfying wide angle shot that encompasses a lot more imagery in very sharp HD quality, as this is a certified High Def lens. The shots are extremely wide, and terrific for letting more light into the lens, and getting a greater sense of depth and feel for what you're seeing on the LCD screen.
It's perfect for outdoor shots, landscapes, parties, sporting events, sunsets, web shows, tv shows, anything that requires a wider field of view, this lens delivers on quality results. The build quality is excellent for the lens, it has a high gloss finish and feels very sturdy and well made unlike other cheap knock-off HD lenses that feel cheep. It weighs about 6.2 ounces, so it will add some weight to your camcorder, but it doesn't make it unbearable. You won't notice it once you start using it more, and with the optical steady shot it will help to stabilize with the extra weight to compensate while you get used to using it more comfortably.
The lens extends the field of vision by 30%, which adds a lot more footage into the frame, and adds 0.75x magnification giving your zoom an extended range, and the lens is constructed of 4 groups and 4 elements. The whole kit comes with the Wide Conversion Lens, a lens cap for the front and back screw mount, the 30mm adaptor ring, the adaptor ring wrench(which allows you to peg the adaptor ring into a fixed slot and screw the lens onto it rather than attatching the lens onto the camera itself with the ring on), and a carrying pouch for the lens.
For the money, if you can get this lens for under the $200.00 price point, I think it's essential if you take your filming seriously for any kind of occasion. Don't be tempted by so called "HD" lenses for pennies on the dollar, thinking your getting comparable quality to high end lenses. Get the right lens for your camcorder/camera suggested by the manufacturer, or sold by the manufacturer. Granted retail prices on lenses range, but on Amazon was the cheapest I could find around. And unless you are a seasoned photographer/videographer familiar with lenses that will go with your camcorder/camera, ask a professional on what you should get if you are not sure. You don't want to buy an expensive camcorder and waste money on a lens that isn't compatible. It's just common sense.

I purchased this lens for video recording lacrosse games. The wide angle lens is ideal for field level recording when you are close to the field. For games with stands, and you are further away, the lens is not necessary and causes less detail to be recorded. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

I'm using this lens on my Sony CV550V camera. I need to get just a little more wide view. I can zoom in, and still get a good picture. I bought two, one for each of my cameras.

Purchased to record marching band performance. Depending on distance from field can cover endzone to endzone. Easy screw on and off. Also fits legacy Sony Hi8mm camera.

Excellent Wide Angle LensNov 24, 2012

Purchased this lens for use with my Sony HD Digital video camera. My main need was to video tape my kids playing volleyball and basketball inside a typical gym. The wide angle adapter allowed me ample width to capture great video. I have used this lens for the past couple years. I'm happy to say that the video was good enough to get my daughter recruited and to receive an awesome scholarship to play collegiate volleyball. I highly recommend this wide angle lens!
